| S.G.M. Publishing is a small, independent, publishing business wholly owned and run by the proprietor Stephen G. Miles. It was established in June 2003 and has its administration address in Gravesend, Kent (U.K.). Most operations, marketing and distribution are handled from Cosgrove in South Northamptonshire. It was established in June, 2003, and has its administration address in Gravesend, Kent. The business was set up solely to publish and market the books written by the proprietor, under his pseudonym of Geoffrey Lewis. This decision was taken after a considerable period during which he had been submitting work to other publishers and literary agents, none of whom were prepared to take on a new, unknown writer; a situation which is becoming the common experience of most unpublished authors. The drive for profit which motivates the established publishing houses tends to result in their preference for authors whose names are already in the public eye, be they politicians, sports personalities or from some other background which makes them easy to market. Support and advice from fellow-members of the Writer’s Guild of Great Britain, and contact with Roger Wickham of Amherst Publishing Ltd., led Steve to set up his own imprint for the purpose of self-publishing the David Russell novels, and other stories which will appear in due course. Proof-reading is handled in-house, with the aid of a number of willing local book-worms, as is all editing of the drafts; an ex-professional photographer, Steve also produces the cover pictures for the books. Page-setting, production and printing are handled by Amherst Publishing. The imprint of SGM Publishing is registered with the International Standard Book Numbering Agency, with its own specific prefix and a block of ISB numbers to cover the upcoming publications. Listed on both Whitaker’s and Nielsen Bookdata, SGM books can be obtained through any bookshop by quoting the title and author, or the ISBN.
